PSL drops a summer heater called “No Vacation” introducing DJ JL.

We had the opportunity to talk with PSL & DJ JL about their new song available on all streaming platforms.

A song with hip hop/afrobeat inspirations. – A Summer heater is what we call it.

What is the name of your song?

The name of the song is No Vacation, and although we could all use one after all this pandemic shit, the point is we don’t NEED one. The whole city is opening up, everyones ready to turn up, the city is lit. This is a song to add to the fun, add to the party and that’s what we’re chasing.

What was the process of making this song?

The process of making the song was straight forward, it was a sunny day the summer vibes were in the air, we wanted the beat to reflect that feeling, that was the first thing we needed and the lyrics and melody were to follow. At first it just was spitting what the beat made us feel, just having fun with it really, which is the way it should be. When we came up with the Chorus we really didn’t know it was going to snap the way it did. Once we had that, the rest of the track just flowed.

How did you link up with PSL?

PSL is my fam, I known him for a long time I’ve been following his music and art forever. I’ve always had my own music inspirations as a DJ but I can definitely say he’s had a huge impact on what I’ve been spinning. We typically end up in the same cities doing our own thing and he was fucking around saying I should DJ for him, I showed him a few of my mixes and that’s when it went from a joke to reality. From there we linked up to share ideas and map some plans.

Where is DJ JL from?

DJ JL is from Toronto, used to be living in the outskirts, Etobicoke, York but in recent years has been downtown in the heart of the city.

What would you like your fans to take away from this song?

Catch a vibe, turn up. Do what you’ve been missing out on these last couple years, don’t take things too seriously and have fun. And dance.

What is your greatest inspiration as a DJ?

Seeing peoples reaction when your spinning a track they already love and you transition to another song they really fuck with especially a drop they didn’t expect. Definitely the WOW factor. On that same note, mixing songs people wouldn’t expect to go together that slap you in the face.

Do you have any new music on the way?

I’m always working on new mixes and mashups which are the regular but this track has got me hungry for working on some more shit of my own and certainly more features with PSL.
