Chris Cachia Takes it Back to Basics with “Bars and Bass”

The latest single from Chris Cachia, “Bars and Bass,” is a back-to-basics, classic-sounding, head-nodding track with Cachia providing the lyrics (the “bars”) and Charlie McEvoy providing the beat (the “bass”). The boom-bap cut, fuelled by alliteration and wordplay, follows the release of two other well-received singles by Cachia, “Hot and Cold” in April and “Above and Below” in May. These tracks all anticipate the upcoming release of his next EP, The 27th Letter.

Cachia is clearly an emcee who takes his craft seriously. Almost every word in the track starts with B – and it’s all witty, all punchy, and all makes sense. Think of Papoose’s “Alphabetical Slaughter,” but with the B part extended on a funky bare-bones beat that bangs. Cachia’s commanding delivery meshes perfectly with McEvoy’s production, reminding listeners of the celebrated rapper and producer pairings of the past. The two have been friends since childhood and their love for both music and their collaboration is obvious.

“Bars and Bass” is now available on Apple Music/iTunes, Bandcamp, Spotify, and through all other major digital distributors.
