Houston artist Alexcusemy has delivered a new EP called Warning Shot, which contains an array of versatile sounds. Drenched in atmospheric, infectious production and featuring potent, well-written vocals from Alexcusemy, the project continues his run of solid projects, following up A Will & A Way and The Alexcusemy Show.
The EP kicks off in a strong fashion with “About Me”, which contains immersive, airy production centred around infectious synths and a crisp, grooving rhythm section. Atop the colorful production, Alexcusemy delivers a vocal performance that captivates with its dynamic melodious songwriting and focused lyricism. “What A Life”, featuring C. Austin Campbell, contains raw, triumphant keys and heavy bass that gives the song a classic Houston feel while keeping things refreshing and forward-thinking. Here, Alexcusemy delivers a potent vocal performance that feels surreal throughout, matching the otherwordly energy of the beat. “Yours Truly” made for one of our favorites on the project, with its elegant production and inspiring vocals closing out the EP on a high note.
