3 Mexican Filmmakers Are Nominated to the Oscars

More and more Mexicans are standing out in the world of films and give testimony that this country is overflowing with talent.

This 2023, the Oscar nominations were revealed and we were surprised that 3 Mexican filmmakers are among the possible winners. Guillermo del Toro, Alejandro González Iñárritu and Alfonso Cuarón are nominated for best animation, best photography and best short film, for films that in 2022 made many jaws drop and showed that there is a lot to expect regarding films.

Pinocchio

Guillermo del Toro did it again, he took a children’s classic film and turned it into a new wonder. This movie has become unique and loveable for young and old, first for the quality of the animation and the almost artisanal work with which it was made, but also because a story known to all and turned it into something different with a much deeper perspective and brought many spectators to tears.

Bardo

Alejandro González Iñárritu is the creative mind of this interesting film about a man who is in full-fledged existential crisis, his doubts about his past life, about the present, and a future that is uncertain, like it is for everybody else.

This is not a simple film, but it is worth sitting down to watch it and try to understand what lies behind the psychedelic scenes filled with an inspiring soundtrack.

Le Pupille

Alfonso Cuarón and Alice Rohrwacher coproduced this beloved short film which is the story of a group of girls in an orphanage during WWII that observe with ingenuity how the Church acts, the precepts that the religion establishes and how many times they have nothing to do with the reality outside.

And, speaking of Alfonso Cuarón, someone who could follow his footsteps is his son, Olmo Cuarón, a young man of 18 who has shown his interest in film animation and has done his first works which he has shared in his social media accounts and his YouTube channel.

Just like Guillermo del Toro, Olmo Cuarón has talent to become an important creative of animation and in a few years, he will probably begin studying this professionally.

Like father, like son, Olmo Cuarón, son of Alfonso Cuarón, has a great future in film and has everything in his favour to achieve it.
